Marcy Gaston, PhD, RD, CDN Let's see, I've had 9 lives before getting to the point in my life but one common denominator has always been food. I'm a bit of a food nerd, so-to-speak. As a child, I watched cooking shows on PBS (Frugal Gourmet, reruns of Julia Child, Great Chef's series, etc) and when the Food Network started in the 90s, I switched from watching MTV to watching the early cookings shows with Bobby Flay and Mario Batali.
Needless to say, watching cooking shows sparked an interest in pursing a career in food. As with most life plans, things never work out the way you want them to. Becoming a full-fledged chef in a big city never really happened for me (you know, babies get in the way of that). However, after culinary school, I was able to have a small catering business, cook in a few restaurants along the way, and work as a personal chef. But as I was studying sustainability in school, I also took classes to become a registered dietitian. There is a natural connection between nutrition and sustainability and one I am excited to explore further. Currently, I live in New Berlin, New York where I am a professor in the Foods and Nutrition program at SUNY Oneonta and have a private practice. I recently published my first novel, a romance called Shining Star. Certification / Licensure:
